The Honesty Box Gallery Exhibition

At the opening night of an art exhibition, Oscar realised he was surrounded mostly by poor artists, painting in the hope that rich, immaculately beautiful (and sartorially eccentric) people might notice their work in a giant building with white walls. A wonderful, curious world — but not the natural habitat of humans.

So he wanted to try the opposite: bring the art and the tales to where humans actually walk, talk, stand and think.

How?

As a boy, his family once passed an unattended roadside fruit stand with a sign reading "$1 per piece." Beside it sat a simple container, handwritten on the front: honesty box. He stood there, awestruck by the quiet magic of it — an invisible meeting of human beings, around a box, called trust.

He set out to try replicating that same magic — displaying personally signed original prints in public places around Australia, each beside its own honesty box, and simply seeing what would happen.
