The curious box (that taught a town to hope)

A small box appeared mysteriously one day on a table in the middle of a town square with a short note stating:

‘This box can only be opened at noon on the 24th of next month or not for another 100 years’.

The townspeople were inflamed with curiosity as they debated what to do. Everyone guessed what was inside that curious box but no one could say for certain. The sense of possibility would remain alive as long as it remained unopened. As noon on the 24th day of the month approached the town waited with bated breath to see what would happen. As noon came and went but no one opened the box, for knowing would destroy the hopeful mystery they had grown to cherish.
