The Gravity Shoes

One ordinary day a boy purchased a pair of shoes that turned out to be anything but ordinary.

You see, on this day, two events, each unfathomably unlikely converged. The first hint of amazing was when the boy’s feet began sliding sideways and stopped only when resting firmly on a towering wall. When awe replaced shock the boy learned he could now walk up walls as easily as strolling had been a moment earlier.

This strange turn of events had begun months prior when a furious win caused tiny shards from a red diamond to become lodged in a rubber tree which eventually became the shoes’ sole.

Then the day prior, the boy received his grandfather’s old portable radio stubbornly tuned to an inane frequency.

Why did that matter? Well you see, red is the rarest so most prized of all diamonds, so its strange effect on gravity — shifting its pull sideways — is never seen. When amplified by a particular radio wavelength, well, it magnifies the effect a thousand-fold. The boy now had extraordinary shoes — ordinary looking to any passerby, that made him the only wall walker alive.

In secret he began to stroll walls everywhere. Then towers and buildings and cliff faces. The world looks most splendid from such a vantage point and it was on certain remote cliffs that the boy discovered what grows there out of sight.

And that’s where the two unfathomably unlikely events became three unfathomably unlikely events and things became even more extraordinary…
