The Story
On the 24th of March, 2015, South Africa met New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final at Eden Park — a match remembered by South African cricket less for what happened than for what almost did.
Needing one run from the final ball, Grant Elliott sent Dale Steyn over the boundary, and New Zealand went through instead. A fortnight later, on the other side of the Tasman, Australia lifted the trophy.
Some hearts carry their nearest misses longer than their wins. This one still wears the wrong label — a keepsake of the final that never was.
