The Story

Peter sat at a cafe reading. Across from him a group of three sat quietly and uncomfortably, occasionally sipping water. Their silence was interrupted at times by stuttered conversation punctuated with long awkward pauses before returning to prolonged and vacant stares. Each wondered why it once seemed like a good idea to meet. Suddenly a strange thing happened. Without warning the man on the right departed and immediately the conversation burst to life.
