The Story

In a world similar to ours but different a wealthy person collected an old version of each new thing they purchased. They would use the old object as often as needed to appreciate the magnificence of the new one — a rusty old car with a shiny new one, a soleless shoe with a beautiful one, a gadget from long ago with each new technological wonder.

So while their friends were ever searching for new things, the rich person savoured their life because the old things gave what the new things alone couldn't: to be grateful.
